Atçalı Efe's deeds were seen as defiance of the state and were not sanctioned by the sultan; defeated in 1830 by the Ottoman forces sent against him, Atçalı Efe died in the fighting. Yet his courage and his efforts to protect the lives, honour and chastity of the people inspired Aegean efes such as Yörük Ali Efe. (Atçalı Kel Mehmet Efe, Wikipedia.) Note: The location is unknown. Since there is no information on where the battle took place, it is assumed to have occurred near Kuyucak, the centre of the rebellion.
