Editor's Note
Mastaura was an ancient town in northern Caria, near Dereağzı in Nazilli, not to be confused with the Mastaura in Lycia. Some sources place its origins in Lydia, and by the 1st century AD Pliny the Elder records it as belonging to the Roman province of Asia, dependent on Ephesus. The city grew wealthy in the Severan period, as shown by its impressive buildings, whose remains today are scattered through the village of Bozyurt amid olive, fig and grape groves.
