Editor's Note
The school was opened during the Ottoman period on 1 November 1877 in a building constructed with four classrooms in the Topraklik neighborhood, one of Konya's oldest settlements. Between 1886 and 1895 it became a Sibyan (primary) school, where a teacher named Haci Mehmet Efendi served. During the time of Mehmet Ferit Pasha it was again turned into an ibtidai (elementary) school and took the name Mecidiye. Two teachers, both graduates of the Darulmuallimin, were appointed. The number of teachers rose to three in 1910 and four in 1914. The school had 95 pupils in 1901, 81 in 1905, 63 in 1906, 65 in 1907, 80 in 1908, and 70 in 1914.
