Editor's Note
Because a new road has been built, the piers of the old, now-disused road are made of cut stone and have survived from the historic caravan route that led to the Akhan Caravanserai. A reinforced-concrete bridge has since been built over it. See Dr. Ender Ozbay, Turkish-Period Bridges in the Buyuk Menderes, Kucuk Menderes and Gediz Basins (pp. 258-564).
