Editor's Note
The tree was once one of Denizli's important plane trees, and the Meserret Coffeehouse, built in the 1910s, also stood here. It is one of the city's major meeting spots, as it remains even today, with a mosque and the Rooster Statue in the square. Lightning struck this plane tree, creating a large hole and hollow, from which it took its name. It is said to have been cut down in 1913 during a road-widening.
