This is a seven-arched Roman-period bridge built of cut travertine stone. Its two central arches were blown up with dynamite during the War of Independence to prevent the Greeks from crossing the Menderes River; in later periods the destroyed section was rebuilt in reinforced concrete to make it passable again. See Dr. Ender Özbay - Turkish-Period Bridges in the Büyük Menderes, Küçük Menderes and Gediz Basins (pp. 245-252).
