Editor's Note
Latmos (the Beşparmak Mountains) is a ridge of many spurs in the Muğla and Aydın provinces of Turkey, running east-west along the northern shore of the former Latmian Gulf on the coast of Caria; its highest point, Tekerlekdağ, reaches 1,375 metres. On its southern slopes, about 25 km east of Miletus, stood the city of Latmus, originally a port on the narrow gulf as reported by Strabo, who also identified it with Mount Phthires of the Catalogue of Trojans.
