According to the inscription above the mosque's entrance, it was built in AH 966 / AD 1558-59 by Suleiman the Magnificent. Its inscription reads: 1- "This blessed mosque was built in the days of Sultan Süleyman Han 2- may God's mercy be upon him // Look, for whoever is in... // ...in the year 966 3- a prayer for its patron, for a good end, from days to come."
