The complex was an extensive ensemble comprising structures such as a mosque, caravanserai, bathhouse, soup kitchen and guest house. The caravanserai in particular served an important function for the lodging of travelers. In addition, structures such as a covered market, a school and a timekeeper's room provided the complex's various services. Two caravanserais are mentioned. 1
