Editor's Note
Sultan Hamza, who commissioned the tomb, was the son of Kara Yülük Osman Bey, founding ruler of the Aq Qoyunlu state, and the ruler who took the throne after his brother Ali Bey. In 1437 he marched on Amid (Diyarbakır), seized power and proclaimed his rule that same year. It is known that Hamza Bey had no sons and married his only daughter to his nephew Cihangir. Indeed, it was Cihangir who took over the rule of the state after him.
