Editor's Note
Begun under Yavlak Arslan (1184-1200), the building was completed during the reign of Artuk Arslan (1200-1239). It has a domed bay in front of the mihrab and three naves parallel to the mihrab, covered by pointed barrel vaults. With its mihrab bay placed on the axis, it repeats the plan of the Great Mosque of Mardin.
