Story
The Ancient Harbour marks the side of Ephesus that once faced the sea. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism describes the city as one of the clearest surviving examples of a Roman port settlement, with its harbour basin and the channel that connected it to the Aegean forming part of the archaeological landscape. Reading this point as a waterfront changes the scale of the ruins: Ephesus was not only a city of temples and public buildings, but a commercial port tied to maritime routes across the Roman world.
