Editor's Note
This is the main building of the complex consisting of a mosque, madrasa, tomb, and bathhouse, commissioned by İlyas Bey in 1404. To the north of the wide courtyard surrounded by the madrasa rooms stands a square-based, domed tomb. Each of the rectangular windows arranged in upper and lower rows on the facades has different ornamentation. The projecting, pointed-arched crown portal on the axis of the north facade has three openings formed by two-tiered arches carried on two marble columns with muqarnas capitals. The central one of these openings is the doorway, while the two on either side are latticed windows.
