Located about 5 km southwest of the Acıpayam district center at an altitude of 1,500 m, the Alacain caves consist of 15 half-dome-shaped caverns ranging from a few meters to 15 m in size, all of which receive daylight. The Kale Tepe hill on which they sit also holds the ruins of a historic fortress. For this reason, the Alacain Caves can be said to carry both natural and historical heritage value. The Alacain archaeological site was classified by the Izmir Regional Council No. II for the Conservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage as a first-degree site.
