Isauria was a rugged, isolated inland district in central-southern Anatolia, set within the Taurus Mountains. Of varying extent in different periods, it generally covered what is now the Bozkır area of Konya Province and bordered Cilicia along the coast. Its people, the Isaurians, were known as an energetic and warlike population.
