Editor's Note
The Makam-i Danyal Mosque stands in the town centre, beside the Kubat Pasha Madrasa. Built over the symbolic tomb of the Prophet Daniel, the mosque is called the Makam (Shrine) Mosque because of the tomb's sacred status. In the 1960s a portico for latecomers was added to the mosque. The main hall of the mosque is rectangular in plan, vaulted and arched. The central Makam-i Serif Mosque was built in 1857, and a new section was also added. Three doors open from the new structure into the old part, and three steps lead down to the main shrine, which is covered by a low dome.
