Editor's Note
Research into the history of Tarsus's electrical infrastructure has claimed that electric lighting first arrived in the town in 1902. According to archival documents, however, electric lighting in Tarsus began in 1910. The Tarsus power station was a hydroelectric plant. Electricity was transmitted from the station to Tarsus at high voltage, where it was then stepped down to low voltage and distributed to subscribers. The station and electrical installations were built by the Tarsus Municipality, which ran the electricity utility directly itself until 1922/1923.
