Halicarnassus was an ancient Greek city in Caria, located on the Gulf of Gökova at what is now Bodrum, Turkey. The city was famous for the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the tomb of Mausolus, which ranked among the seven wonders of the ancient world. Built between 353 and 350 BC, the monument gave rise to the word 'mausoleum'.
