Drawing on its location and on the statements of ancient sources, Iris Cornelia Love argued that this was the site of the Temple of Aphrodite and of the statue known as the "Aphrodite of Knidos," one of the most famous sculptures of antiquity. According to another view, however, this temple was dedicated to a different deity.
