Editor's Note
Located on the road leading up to the acropolis hill, the Great Theatre of Knidos was the city's largest theatre, with a capacity of 20,000 people. Today it is so badly ruined that its form can no longer be made out, and only one of its walls remains visible. It is said that the theatre's architectural elements, together with the columns of the Temple of Aphrodite, were used in the Cairo palace of the Egyptian governor Mehmet Ali Paşa of Kavala and in the construction of the interior staircases of Dolmabahçe Palace.
