Editor's Note

Contrary to the claim that it was built in 1911 by Kani Bey, the district governor of the time, it was in fact constructed by the Germans in 1907 during the building of the Hejaz Railway. The school, which opened for education in 1911 under the name 'Kanun-i Sani First School', was brought into service by Kani Bey. When first built, in keeping with its original purpose, it was used by the Germans as a hospital. The materials and architecture used in the school's construction are found in no other building in or around Osmaniye apart from the train stations.
