Béla Bartók (1881-1945) was not only a brilliant composer and musician but also a very important researcher of the history of Hungarian folk music. In November 1936 he spent a few weeks in Turkey. With the help of the experts who assisted him here, and especially Adnan Saygun (1907-1991), he collected and recorded various motifs of Turkish music in Osmaniye in southern Anatolia and in the surrounding villages. This collection is today a priceless treasure of Turkish culture.
