Editor's Note
During the Roman period, as populations grew, major water channels (aqueducts) were built to supply the cities' water needs. Water from a clean source in the Amanos Mountains was carried via the ancient city of Epiphaneia to the coast, as far as the port city of Burnaz and the city of Ayas (Yumurtalık). The total length of this ancient water channel reaches about 30 km. One branch of it is identified as the Kurtpınarı Ancient Water Channel. The Kurtpınarı aqueduct (Adana, Ceyhan - Kurtpınarı neighborhood) was built of rubble stone, its outer surface clad with basalt blocks.
