Editor's Note
Sirkeli Höyük is one of the most important mounds in Cilicia. The settlement lies 40 km east of Adana, at the point where the Ceyhan River reaches the Misis Mountains (Tur. Nur Dağı). Sirkeli Höyük sits on the historic road that ran from Syria to central Anatolia via the 'Cilician Gates.' The medieval Yılan Castle on the opposite bank of the Ceyhan River, together with the Baghdad railway and the modern motorway that pass through here, attest to the importance of this historic route running by Sirkeli Höyük. The mound measures 300 x 400 m and is 30 m high.
