Eşek Deresi Cave is an important archaeological settlement located in the central Taurus Mountains (the Cilicia region) north of Mersin province, dating to the Late Epipaleolithic period (roughly 13,200-10,700 BC). The cave is a newly discovered site offering critical data for understanding the Paleolithic-to-Neolithic transition in the region. It lies in the Eşek Deresi Valley near the village of Doğu Sandal, north of the Erdemli and Tarsus districts of Mersin. Set about 12 km inland from the Mediterranean coast, it stands on the eastern slope of a deep canyon, 50 meters above the valley floor.
