Mavga Castle was built in the early 13th century, near the mountain road between Kestel and Mut in Mersin. Set on a rocky site, the castle was designed as a single tower with no defensive structures and has been completely abandoned. It was built by Alaeddin Keykubat in 1230, carved out of the natural rock. On the tower at the northeast end there is a rectangular niche containing an Arabic inscription. The curtain walls have been destroyed. Natural caves were shaped for use as dwellings.
