In Akyaka, today a town of Muğla, rescue excavations carried out by the Muğla Archaeology Museum brought to light a basilica-plan structure with three naves and three apses, its central nave paved with mosaic. The mosaics, made in the opus tessellatum technique from tesserae of marble, brick, and limestone shaped into cubes, feature a rich decorative program: geometric forms used as an outer frame, along with animal figures and floral and geometric motifs in the inner arrangements of the panels.
