It was commissioned from Tankut Öktem by our great seafarer Sadun Boro — who circumnavigated the world in 2 years and 10 months aboard his sailboat Kısmet, becoming the first Turk to sail around the world — and was unveiled on 28 October 1995. The statue was placed on rocks in the middle of the sea at Okluk Cove in the Gulf of Gökova, one of the highlights of the "Blue Voyage." With this statue, Sadun Boro immortalized his gratitude toward these shores, which he fought hard to protect and described as without equal among all the places he had sailed in the world.
