The ancient saltworks where Kaunos Salt was produced — consisting of pans and channels — was built on a narrow dune lying between the salt lake behind the world-famous İztuzu beach at the tip of the Dalyan Delta and the rocky hill behind it. The Kaunos Saltworks is a first in Anatolian archaeology. As is known, "Kaunos Salt" was a sought-after additive in the production of eye ointment in the pharmacology of antiquity, and the facility where it was produced was discovered only in the 40th year of our research at Kaunos.
