Built in 1850, the church was transferred to the General Directorate of Foundations in 1956 and closed. After a three-year restoration, it reopened for worship in 2010. Some of the stones used in the restoration were brought from Mardin, while the stones for the floor paving came from Syria. In the earthquake of 6 February 2023, the apse collapsed, cracks appeared throughout the structure, and it suffered serious damage.
