Editor's Note
This ancient settlement, popularly known as the Ovacık Peninsula and referred to in the archaeological literature as Cilician Aphrodisias, is reached by a side road branching south at the 35th kilometre of the Silifke-Anamur highway. The oldest visible remains are the cyclopean fortification walls and bastions, thought to have been built in the 12th century BC and reaching a total length of nearly 4 kilometres. The most important monument of the ancient city is the Church of St. Pantaleon. The floor of this 4th-century AD church is entirely covered with mosaic.
