In Hild and Hellenkemper's book 'Kilikien und Isaurien', a small ancient anchorage called 'Komardias' (Camardase, Camarles, Camardesium) in Ovacık Cove is mentioned. According to the Pisan nautical chart of 1275-1300, Komardias lies between Papadola and Porto Cavalier (Aphrodisias), on the east side of the Gulf of Ovacık, 29 km southwest of Silifke. At Ovacık, on a hill, there were ruins whose nature could not be fully determined until the early 1970s. The present Ovacık settlement, on a low hill by the sea, must have been built over the ancient city.
