Editor's Note
Gökburç is a watchtower raised in the Byzantine period, in the 6th century. Placed in the interior of Silifke to survey passes and roads, it belonged to the scattered yet systematic web of frontier defence. Its plain stone body survives well enough to suggest its purpose.
