Editor's Note
The harbor was founded between Papadola and Kelenderis, named after the Egyptian queen Berenice. Near the spot where the Çağlayık Stream empties into the cove, remains of a bathhouse and a water cistern are found. A ring discovered by Ahmet Selçuk, the former owner of Gökada around 1975 and donated to the Silifke Museum, bears a relief of Berenice I, wife of Ptolemy I. The 3.2 cm bronze ring is a marker of the Egyptian culture on the peninsula. The freshwater sources would have been the Çağlayık Stream and the surrounding cisterns.
