There are differing accounts regarding the building's history. The English School in today's Samandağ district, formerly known as Süveydiye, is said to have been built as early as 1846. Some sources, however, give the school's founding date as 1874. There is also information that the school was founded in 1846, expanded in 1874, and completed in 1879. In light of all this data, it is possible to say that the school was built in 1846, that expansion began in 1874, and that it took its final form in 1879.
