Nagidos is an ancient city on the coast of Rough Cilicia, at the Paşabeleni locality in the Bozyazı district of Mersin. It lies 14 km east of Anamur and 208 km west of Mersin. Coordinates: 36° 5′ 58″ North, 32° 58′ 39″ East. The following is offered about the origin of its name: "The original form of the name Nagidos was likely adapted to Greek pronunciation as Nagida / Nakhita. A city of Nakhita is mentioned in Hittite records." [Prof. Dr. H. Ertem] "It takes its name from the Luwian 'Na-Kinda,' meaning 'the land of Kinda, son of the holy mother.'
