Story
Located in the heart of Konak, the Kemeralti Bazaar is one of Izmir's oldest and most vibrant commercial centers. Founded in the 17th century, this historic market draws attention with its arched passages bearing the typical features of Ottoman architecture. Its narrow, winding streets and colorful shops carry visitors to another time. A place where textiles, jewelry, copperware, and various handicrafts are sold, it is a witness to a commercial life spanning centuries. The baths and mosques on the bazaar's outer edges reflect the richness of Ottoman culture. It is the center of the local people's daily life, and traces of history can be seen in every corner. Going early in the morning and drinking local tea while chatting with the shopkeepers is the best way to understand the true spirit of Kemeralti.
