Story
Hidden within the historic fabric of Bolvadin, the Haci Bayezid Fountain is an important monument that carries the architectural refinement of the Ottoman period into the present. The fountain was built in memory of a respected figure named Haci Bayezid, who stood at the center of religious and social life in the region. The structure, where stonework is displayed with mastery, is a witness to the water culture and the waqf (endowment) tradition of the past. On Afyonkarahisar's rich heritage map, this fountain continues to be an important meeting point for the local community. In the square around the fountain it is possible to observe the architectural mastery and inscriptions of the era; the motifs reflect the delicate details of Ottoman art. Thanks to the Ottoman waqf system, most of these fountains, preserved over the centuries, reflected the spirit of social life as well as delivering water. Visitors can best observe the stone carvings and architectural details highlighted by the sun in the morning hours.
