Story
Among the gleaming stone streets of Konya, located beside the Mevlana Complex, Fountain No. 2 is on a historical journey reaching back to the 13th century. Part of the spiritual world of Jalaluddin Rumi, this structure stands out with the elegant craftsmanship of its cross-shaped windows and the colorful design of its tile motifs. In the Islamic tradition, water is regarded as a symbol of cleanliness and spirituality; the water flowing from this fountain has purified the bodies and souls of worshippers over the passing centuries. In Ottoman-period records, public fountains were referred to as social welfare institutions operated by charitable foundations. When you come to Konya to visit Mevlana, after leaving the museum you can drink a sip of water from this fountain and feel Rumi's message of love and compassion more deeply.
