Editor's Note
The Serpent Column (Twisted Column) is a bronze ancient Greek monument that survives from the Hippodrome (At Meydanı) in Istanbul's Sultanahmet quarter, depicting three intertwined python serpents. It was made to commemorate the victory of the Greek cities that united against the Persian army in 479 BC and was originally erected at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi. It is held to have been brought to Istanbul by Emperor Constantine in 324. About 5 meters of it survive today, broken at the top and bottom.
