Alanya Castle
Alanya Kalesi
Alâeddin Keykubad's 13th-century coastal capital — 7 km of wall, 140 towers, the Seljuk navy's first arsenal.
Story
In 1221 Seljuk sultan Alâeddin Keykubad took Kalonoros from the Byzantines and rebuilt the city under his own name. Behind a 7 km wall studded with 140 towers, he raised a mosque, a covered market, a sultan's palace — every one of them still standing. Look down from the peninsula at the Mediterranean turquoise and remember that Alâeddin was Anatolia's first naval sultan; the Alanya shipyard is his legacy.
