Editor's Note
It is thought to date to the Middle Byzantine period. The rectangular cistern has seven columns arranged in three rows. The walls of the structure are coated with waterproof plaster up to the springing of the vaults. The cistern's central row of columns has been damaged: two columns in this row were removed and replaced with metal supports. Today the cistern lies beneath the building of the Bilim ve Sanat Vakfı (Science and Art Foundation) and can be entered only with special permission.
