Editor's Note
Pol Yaşan Synagogue was a synagogue formerly located in the Balat neighborhood of Istanbul's Fatih district. Although its original construction date is uncertain, it is known to have been rendered unusable by a fire in 1890. Its reconstruction was permitted by an edict dated 1902. Used until the 1950s, the synagogue was abandoned due to neglect and a declining congregation and rented out as a warehouse; it was expropriated and demolished in 1985 during works to redevelop the area around the Golden Horn.
