Editor's Note
A mausoleum and memorial with a chapel, built by the Russian Empire between 1895 and 1898 in the village of San Stefano (today Yeşilköy) to honor Russian soldiers who died in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. In 1914, during World War I, the monument was demolished on the orders of Enver Pasha. The demolition was filmed by Fuat Uzkınay as "Demolition of the Monument at San Stefano," regarded as the oldest known Turkish-made film. The monument no longer exists.
