Editor's Note
During the Second World War, what amounted to a second city was created beneath Ankara Castle. Built with support from Germany under the precautions taken during the Second World War to allow the government and the Turkish Armed Forces to operate in safety, the shelter spread over 1,200 square metres and was designed to meet every need of 3,600 people for short stays and 1,200 people for extended stays.
