The Etimesgut Mosque stands within a military zone in Etimesgut, one of Ankara's central districts. Begun with the permission and orders of the military while architect Cengiz Bektaş was serving as a reserve officer, the building is considered one of Turkey's first modern-designed mosques, with a form far removed from the conventional mosque. Lacking both a dome and a minaret, the mosque was designed on a hexagonal plan and built on three different levels.
