Editor's Note
Although the construction date of the Zincidere Cistern is unknown, it stands out as the largest example identified among the cisterns in and around Kayseri. Located within a military barracks, the structure could not be surveyed in detail because access for study was not permitted. However, the fact that most of it lies above ground level is an important feature distinguishing it from other cisterns in the region. The interior, reached by descending a stairway, was designed entirely for function. It was built wholly of cut stone, with no decorative elements.
