Editor's Note
The Karakus Tumulus, within the boundaries of Adiyaman's Kahta district, is a monumental tomb belonging to the women of the Commagene royal family. The mound was formed by piling up river stones. Because of the eagle statue atop the column standing to the south of the tumulus, which is about 20 meters high, local people called it karakus (black bird), and it entered the literature under this name. To the east of the tumulus stand two more columns, each about 10 meters high.
