Editor's Note
Phellos is located on the Felen plateau at an elevation of 850 m, north of Kaş (Antiphellos), which was the harbor settlement of the ancient city. It was built on a narrow, elongated ridge commanding the entire view down to the coast. Surface surveys at the unexcavated city date its earliest occupation to the 7th century BC. At the peak of its power during the dynastic period, Phellos was the most important stronghold in the region between Xanthos and Myra. Although the city was at times ruled by the dynasties of Xanthos and Limyra during this period, Phellos was mostly an independent city and had minted coins in its own name since the 5th century BC.
